Medical Advisory Board
Unicity's Medical Advisory Board is comprised of practicing healthcare professionals — cardiologists, family practitioners, gynecologists, ophthalmologists, nurses, sports medicine experts, and dietitians — who are passionate about health care. These medical advisors constantly validate our nutritional research and development and work with our scientists to ensure that Unicity's advanced formulations are efficacious (having the power to produce the desired effect) and meet the highest standards in medical and clinical research and safety.

The Medical Advisory Board, together with Unicity scientists and researchers, monitor and enable clinical trials and testing in health professional practices, universities, and research organizations. Their diligence and expertise have resulted in eight Unicity products being listed in the Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR), the leading reference guide of physicians and hospitals for more than 50 years.

Peter J.E. Verdegem, Ph.D., MBA
Dr. Peter J.E. Verdegem, Unicity’s Chief Science Officer, obtained a MSc in Organic Chemistry from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. In his specialization he studied the chemistry of the photosynthetic reaction center of plants. After his MSc degree, he started a Ph.D. research project studying the human eye. For this various vitamin A analogues were synthesized and incorporated into rhodopsin, the visual receptor in the retina. NMR allowed to measure internuclear distances in the receptor vitamin A ligand, and thereby a three-dimensional model for the ligand could be constructed. This has resulted in a greater understanding of the fascinating physics that happens in the visual process. In 1998 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Bio-Organic Photochemistry.
He pursued his academic career with post-doctoral research at Stockholm University in Sweden where he developed techniques to study proteins at molecular levels. During a position at Nijmegen University Medical Center in the Netherlands, he studied and developed non-invasive technology to diagnose prostate cancer. After these academic positions he joined Royal Numico Research and Development to develop, and clinically substantiate dietary supplements for a broad variety of health conditions (such as menopause, prostate health, eye health, Alzheimer, ADHD, dyslexia, diabetes, and obesity). Dr. Verdegem’s scientific work has been published in over 30 peer-reviewed publications. In 2004, he moved to Utah, and joined Unicity International to head to Research & Development Department, where he is responsible for product development, clinical substantiation and scientific training of our Business Associates. In 2006 he finished his MBA from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University. |
