Good Health Comes in Small Packages—
Bios Life Packet Packs Powerful Punch
How’d they get so much in something so small?

Take a Bios Life packet and hold it in your hand. It weighs almost nothing and takes up virtually no space at all. In fact, you can easily carry several in your purse, briefcase, pocket, or even your wallet. But don’t let its size fool you. Inside of every Bios Life packet is perhaps the most thoroughly researched and carefully chosen combination of ingredients available in any supplement on the market today.

A Foundation of Fiber

Bios Life’s ingredients begin with a revolutionary approach to dietary fiber. Dietary fiber is undoubtedly one of the most talked about nutrients for health promotion and disease prevention. In fact, dietary fiber is the focus of two FDA-approved health claims that appear on foods labels touting the benefits of high fiber foods for the prevention of heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Fiber is a substance found only in plants, such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. The part of the plant fiber that you eat is called dietary fiber and is an important part of a healthy diet. Dietary fiber is made up of two main types—insoluble and soluble.

The Soul of Soluble Fiber

Soluble fiber is known to reduce blood cholesterol levels and normalize blood sugar levels. It forms a gel when mixed with liquid, while insoluble fiber does not. Insoluble fiber passes through your digestive tract largely intact. Both types of fiber are included in a packet of Bios Life and provide benefits to the digestive system by helping to maintain regularity. However, it’s soluble fiber that provides additional benefits to heart health and blood glucose levels.

Five Soluble Fibers in One Small Packet

Any other dietary fiber product on the market today offers one, or at the most, two sources of fiber—however, at the foundation of Bios Life is a powerful and unique combination of five soluble fibers.

These five different, highly soluble fibers are: guar gum, gum acacia, locust bean gum, pectin, and oat fiber. Gum is a scientific term for soluble fiber.

These soluble fibers were carefully researched and chosen for their ability to create the most effective fiber matrix possible in the stomach and digestive system—much more effective when combined together than if they were used individually.

This fiber matrix lowers serum cholesterol by reducing the absorption of dietary cholesterol. In addition, this fiber complex absorbs bile acids, which are the compounds manufactured by the liver from cholesterol that are necessary for the proper digestion of fat. After absorbing the bile acids, the compounds are removed from circulation and do not make it back to the liver. As a result, the liver must use additional cholesterol to manufacture new bile acids. Bile acids are necessary for normal digestion of fat. Soluble fiber also reduces the amount of cholesterol manufactured by the liver. This function is often referred to as the First Mechanism of Bios Life.

In addition, this unique fiber matrix helps to normalize blood glucose levels by slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach and by delaying the absorption of glucose following a meal. This causes a balanced absorption of sugar into the bloodstream––which results in balanced energy throughout the day. The soluble fibers in Bios Life also increase insulin sensitivity. As a result, the fibers play a role in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes. By slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach, these five fibers promote a sense of satiety, or fullness, after a meal, which helps to prevent overeating and weight gain.

But Wait, There’s More…

Bios Life adds a new dimension to soluble fiber by including calcium carbonate in the ingredients in order to make the five-fiber matrix even more effective.

Upon contact with the acidic environment of the stomach, the calcium carbonate starts to release carbon dioxide. This bubbling disperses the fiber matrix quickly through the gastric fluid. As a result, the fiber matrix is formed quickly and efficiently. This aspect of Bios Life is patented. Consequently, no other fiber products can combine soluble fiber with mineral carbonates.

We Could Have Stopped Right Here and Had a Great Product

If fact, with the addition of some nutritional ingredients, what we’ve described so far is what comprised Bios Life2—up until now the top-selling nutritional supplement for managing cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

But Bios Life2 no longer reflects the latest discoveries in medical science. As a result, a new Bios Life was developed which includes three additional elements for improving cholesterol, triglyceride, and blood sugar levels.

Fighting Cholesterol with Phytosterols

In order to be more effective at controlling cholesterol levels, Bios Life has included three types of potent phytosterols. Phytosterols are a natural chemical found in plants. Technically speaking, phytosterols are cholesterol analogs, which means they have similar functions but different origins.

Cholesterol and phytosterols are so similar that they only differ in one position on the chemical structure. In fact, phytosterols are so similar to cholesterol that if they’re present in the digestive system along with cholesterol, the proteins that transport cholesterol can’t tell the difference between the two. As a result many phytosterols are picked up by these proteins instead of cholesterol, which allows the cholesterol to be passed out of the body and not absorbed into the bloodstream.

Phytosterols form the basis for what is called The Second Mechanism of Bios Life.

The Sweet Addition of Policosanol

Policosanol, an ingredient in Bios Life that originates from sugarcane, has been shown to inhibit an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase—one of the enzymes involved in cholesterol synthesis.

Scientists have spent years in establishing the cholesterol lowering properties of the policosanol molecule. This molecule is actually a mixture of a couple of different molecules. Their structure is unique in the sense that they interfere with the effectiveness of HMG-CoA reductase—reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. Policosanol is in fact an all-natural statin and is also highly effective. Policosanol forms the basis for The Third Mechanism of Bios Life.

Stop and Smell the Chrysanthemums

Unicity Research and Development discovered that a water extract of chrysanthemum morifolium energizes an enzyme called 7-alpha hydroxylase. 7-alpha hydroxylase takes cholesterol out of your system and converts it to cholic acid—a form of bile acid. Chrysanthemum morifolium extract is like giving the 7-alpha hydroxylase enzymes an energy drink that makes them work twice as hard. As a result, more cholesterol is taken from your body’s storage and converted into cholic acid—thus reducing the total amount of cholesterol in your body. Chrysanthemum morifolium extract is The Fourth Mechanism of Bios Life.

Bios Life Attacks Heart Disease on Another Front

Life-threatening cholesterol levels aren’t the only factor affecting heart disease. With skyrocketing incidence rates that are expected to soar even higher in the future, diabetes is rapidly transforming the health landscape of the United States and other Western nations. It is no exaggeration to say that diabetes now looms as one of the most costly, destructive medical epidemics of the early 21st century.

Those affected with diabetes face a host of insidious health threats that include heart disease, stroke, and blindness, to name just a few.

Soldiers in the War on Diabetes

The ingredients in Bios Life work independently as well as in combination with other ingredients to help control blood sugar levels and sensitivity to insulin. On the forefront is chromium polynicotinate, also known as niacin-bound chromium. Chromium is believed to enhance the effectiveness of insulin. Supplemental chromium reduces blood glucose levels. Many researchers believe that supplementary chromium could be very useful for diabetics, especially those with type 2 diabetes.

Bios Life also includes beta glucans. Recent research shows that consuming foods containing beta-glucan could reduce the insulin and glucose response after a meal, thereby easing a risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

What’s more, glucans appear to stimulate the large white blood cells called macrophages into action. These cells are a primary defense system for our bodies, identifying abnormal conditions and activating the appropriate therapeutic response. They literally devour bacteria, foreign cells, dead and dying cells, mutated cells, cancerous cells,

and other negative invaders. Beta glucan’s stimulation of macrophage cells produces a cascade of immune events, boosting immune response, stimulating the production of immune cells and improving host resistance.

Bios Life Doesn’t Stop There

In addition to ingredients that specifically impact cardiovascular disease and diabetes, Bios Life also contains many of the vitamins and nutrients our bodies need on a daily basis. Niacinamide, Riboflavin, Biotin, Cyanocobalamin, Folic Acid, and Thiamin HCI provide a powerful vitamin B complex. These vitamins are essential for:

The breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose (this provides energy for the body)

The breakdown of fats and proteins (which aids the normal functioning of the nervous system)

Muscle tone in the stomach and intestinal tract

Development of cells in skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver

In addition, the powerful antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E are provided in Bios Life in the form of Ascorbic Acid and D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate. The precursor of vitamin A is included as Beta Carotene which includes antioxidant properties and my help in preventing cancer and other diseases.

The Power in the Packet

What you hold in your hand is the most remarkable product available today. By drinking a glass of Bios Life 10 minutes before you eat you’re improving your cholesterol levels, lowering your triglyceride and blood sugar levels—and doing perhaps the most effective thing you can to avoid cardiovascular disease, heart disease, and diabetes.

That is a big promise from a small package—and one that Bios Life can fulfill, one packet at a time.

Note: Just as popular as Bios Life in packets is Bios Life in canisters. The canister form is extremely handy when mixing Bios Life at home or work in a blender with your favorite fruits, vegetables, juices, and nutritional powders. Bios Life in canisters includes the same great ingredients as Bios Life in packets.

Bios Life Bootcamp

The Third Mechanism of Bios Life—
Going Down!
Decreasing the amount of cholesterol manufactured by the liver naturally
By Dr. Peter Verdegem, Unicity Chief Science Officer

In November and December we talked about two important ways that Bios Life works to help you manage your cholesterol levels:

Trapping and Eliminating the Cholesterol in Your Bile Acid

Preventing Your Body from Absorbing Cholesterol from the Food You Eat

This month we talk about an almost secret ingredient that’s gaining popularity very quickly: Policosanol. But before I talk about policosanol, let me first tell you a bit more about cholesterol.

Cholesterol can be brought to its proper levels using several different approaches. That's because cholesterol has many functions in the body. Every function involves its own biochemical reactions, and each one of those is, in principle, a target for intervention.

The most common approach that’s used to lower cholesterol is called “HMG-CoA reductase inhibition” or in other words, decreasing the about of cholesterol manufactured by the liver. This is the approach that statin drugs use.

Manufacturing Cholesterol
Cholesterol is synthesized from small building blocks in the body using a long chain of biochemical reactions. In total, more than 20 steps are used to construct the cholesterol molecule. Glucose (sugar) or palmitate (a fatty acid) can be used as the source molecule that is used to generate cholesterol. Every individual building step of the molecule is mediated by enzymes. These are large protein molecules that serve to facilitate the biochemical steps.

If you compare the cholesterol synthesis process to an automobile factory line, the workers and robots are the enzymes that bring the different building blocks together. Since the construction line is a linear process, if only one worker is not working, or working slow, the whole line slows down in speed. This is the idea behind HMG-CoA reductase inhibition.

Inhibiting the HMG-CoA Reductase Enzyme

HMG-CoA reductase is one of the enzymes involved in cholesterol synthesis. This abbreviation stands for 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoEnzyme A reductase. This enzyme converts HMG-CoA to mevalonate which is one of the steps in the production chain. This enzyme can be inhibited (slowed down) by many components. The most well-known of these are the statin molecules, such as atorvastatin (Lipitor), lovastatin (Mevacor), simvastatin (Zocor) and other similar drugs.

These molecules can slow down this enzyme by binding to it. This binding results in a structural change of the enzyme so that it is no longer active in the production chain. Disabling enough of this enzyme throughout the body will reduce the total amount of cholesterol produced.

Policosanol Inhibits HMG-CoA Reductase Naturally
This same enzyme inhibition is used by the third mechanism in Bios Life. Similar to statin molecules, a specific phytonutrient called policosanol from sugarcane has been shown to inhibit this enzyme.

Scientists have spent years in establishing the cholesterol lowering properties of the policosanol molecule. This molecule is actually a mixture of a couple of different alcohol molecules. Their structure is unique in the sense that they also interfere with the effectiveness of HMG-CoA reductase. It is in fact a natural statin, and like a statin drug, it is also highly effective.

The Effectiveness of Policosanol
Many studies have been performed with this molecule in dosages comparable to statin dosages, from 5 mg to 40 mg per day. LDL is typically reduced in the range of 20 - 25% in a 12 week period. But, unlike statin drugs, it is effective without producing any side effects.

Why, if policosanol works identical to statins, does it not cause the same side effects as statins? Side effects are not caused by the positive results that the statins have on the enzyme, but rather from the aftereffects the statin molecules have on other body tissues. Consequently the liver has to clean up the statin molecules once they have finished their job to minimize these consequences. Policosanol apparently does not produce these side effects.

Policosanol Goes to Work in the Third Mechanism of Bios Life

Bios Life contains 12 mg of pure policosanol. The Third Mechanism of Bios Life does not rely on taking the product close to a meal. It is known that Bios Life is best taken before the meal, since the first and second mechanism work best before the meal. The policosanol works throughout the day, since cholesterol synthesis goes on 24 hours a day. Therefore, if Bios Life is not taken before the meal, it can still be taken after or at any time during the day. (Still, taking Bios Life before a meal maximizes its effect).

As a side benefit, policosanol has other beneficial effects for the cardiovascular system. Research has shown that it also reduces LDL-oxidation, and platelet aggregation.

LDL can be oxidized by free radicals, and this leads to an even greater build up of atherosclerosis. Slowing this down obviously has an extra benefit on top of the mere lowering of

LDL. Platelet aggregation is the process that may lead to blood clots that can reduce the blood flow in the body. Policosanol will keep the blood fluid and reduce clotting.

Are You Ready to Pay the High Cost of Neglect?
Paraway® Pack—Designed to Help Your Body Remove Impurities

Neglect has a way of finding you sooner or later. Often the consequences of not doing what you should cost more than doing it. Recognize these examples of neglect?:

My air conditioner wasn’t cooling my house. Soon, it stopped working altogether. Turns out that the filter was so plugged that air couldn’t circulate. Because I didn’t spend a couple of bucks on a filter I have to replace my entire air conditioner.

The kitchen sink was draining slower and slower. Eventually, nothing was going down. A plumber had to replace the pipes because they were so plugged.”

I just got my mechanic’s bill. Those years of not changing the oil or tuning the engine finally caught up with me. I thought I would save money, now I have to pay big-time.”

Cutting corners to save money or time, or even ignorance can eventually burden you with long-term unfortunate consequences.

If Only Your Body Came With an Owner’s Manual
More important—and certainly more complicated than your air conditioner, plumbing, or even your car—is your body.

No, your body didn’t come with an owner’s manual, but thanks to modern science, we know that there are things we should be doing to maintain the health of our bodies, and things we shouldn’t do. For example, we know that smoking isn’t good for you, and we know that exercise is. We know we should enhance our diets with nutritional supplements.

If we go too long neglecting the maintenance of our bodies it can eventually cause health problems—many of them serious. Often, what we don’t know or can’t see can be very damaging.

The Inside Story—You’re Not as Clean as You Think!

One of the most neglected aspects of your health is what’s on your inside. Keeping the outside of your body clean is a billion dollar industry. Soaps, scrubs, shampoos, toothpastes…whole aisles of grocery stores devoted to keeping you clean on the outside.

Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind when it comes to internal cleanliness. Granted, there are a lot more pleasant things to talk about than the details of your insides, but neglecting your internal health and cleanliness has its consequences.

Toxins, Pollutants, and Parasites—Oh, My!

Never before has mankind been bombarded with so many toxins and pollutants. They’re in the air, in the food we eat, and the water we drink. We’re not even safe in our own homes: cleaners, deodorizers, detergents, furniture polish, chemicals in our food and water—even parasites—all are absorbed into our bodies, and we just can’t get rid of them effectively. And eventually, like the furnace filter, or the kitchen pipes, or the neglected car engine, our bodies can develop serious health problems.

Good health begins on the inside. The first step in achieving and sustaining good health is cleansing and detoxification on the inside. In order for your cells and organs to function properly—let alone optimally—you must cleanse your systems of toxins, pollutants, and parasites.

How Do You Know if You Need Help?

No one likes to think of themselves filled with all sorts of sludge and chemicals, or parasites, so let’s focus on some of the symptoms that can occur when you need to rid your body of harmful impurities:

Are you?

Suffering with fatigue, weakness, low energy levels?

Dealing with allergies or food sensitivities/intolerances?

Frustrated by elimination problems, constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids?

Suffering with intestinal disorders like IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Colitis?

Experiencing poor immunity - frequent colds, viruses, infections?

Dealing with the aggravation of frequent headaches or migraines?

Exasperated due to skin problems, acne, rashes, boils, pimples, lack-luster color, canker sores?

Uncomfortable due to digestive problems, bloating, belching, acid reflux, hiatal hernia?

Concerned by flatulence, bad breath or foul body odor?

Stressed because of unclear thinking, poor concentration?

Frustrated because they are always running out of "steam" before they run out of day?

These are just a few of the more mild symptoms of toxins, pollutants, or parasites. Don’t forget that negative thought patterns and emotions can be toxins as well—both as stressors and by changing the normal physiology of the body and possibly producing specific symptoms.

The Toxic Cycle Goes ‘Round and ‘Round
Your body's primary organs are engaged in two vital tasks: taking in what the body needs, and getting rid of what the body doesn't need.

Most people focus on improving what they bring in—like the nutritional quality of their food and the cleanliness of their air and water. But it is equally important to assist your body in getting rid of what it doesn't need.

Over time, toxification from environmental pollutants and an imbalanced diet can lead to uneliminated waste turning toxic in the system and accumulating on the intestinal walls. This accumulation blocks your body's ability to absorb needed nutrients from food passing through the system and slows the passage of food allowing for even more putrification, which in turn leads to more toxic accumulation.

Often referred to as self-poisoning, or auto-intoxification, this debilitating cycle begins to poison vital bodily organs at the source, limiting their ability to self cleanse.

Cleanse Your Way Back to Optimal Health
At this point, your body needs help from an external source, such as herbs, fiber, and other purifying agents, to regain its proper balance between accumulation and elimination.

Without internal cleansing, a toxic body experiences symptoms such as weight gain, mood swings, headaches, poor circulation, cellulite, low immunity, sugar cravings, anxiety, body odor, bad breath, bloating, poor digestion, confusion, memory loss, premature aging, lethargy, and stiff joints.

Internal cleansing allows you to experience immediate results, often leading to better overall health, vitality, and a stronger sense of wellbeing than you’ve previously experienced.

The Paraway Pack is a revolutionary system to rid your body of wastes, unwanted organisms and to keep your gastrointestinal system running smoothly. This 3-step system will scrub your intestinal walls to remove toxins and debris, neutralize unwanted organisms, and flush them out. The three components in this system are LiFiber, Nature's Tea and Paraway Plus. Together they work in harmony to revitalize your body.

LiFiber is a psyllium-based powder drink mix that can be added to water, juice or the beverage of your choice. The psyllium base provides eight times more soluble fiber than oat bran. Studies indicate that soluble fiber may help reduce blood cholesterol, while insoluble fiber passes quickly through the digestive system and helps clear the colon of toxins and other wastes. In cleansing the body of parasites, insoluble fiber is vital, in that it takes with it the paralyzed parasites, bacteria and fungi and eliminates them from your body. Think of LiFiber as a scrub brush for your digestive system.

Nature's Tea improves regularity and colon functions. Constipation becomes a problem when transit time is slowed, bringing with it numerous health concerns. Sometimes the body's systems need a little help to get things moving again, and Nature's Tea supports this natural process. The main ingredient in Nature's Tea is Senna Leaf, an ancient herb known for its laxative action.

Paraway Plus puts Black Walnut Hulls to work killing many kinds of intestinal worms, especially tapeworms. The active ingredient, jugione, exerts antifungal, antiparasite, antiviral, and antibacterial effects. Also included is Pumpkin seed, an important ingredient that paralyzes rather than kills the parasites. Together these ingredients arm your body with a great weapon for removing parasites.
