Role of Cholesterol in Alzheimer’s disease is Being Studied Reports the Harvard Men’s Health Watch
It sounds simple: The lower your cholesterol, the better your heart health. But your heart and your head may not always agree. In fact, the relationships among cholesterol levels, psychological function, and neurologic disorders are complex and sometimes controversial, reports the March 2007 issue of Harvard Men’s Health Watch.
Two Major Forms of Dementia
There are two major forms of dementia: vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Vascular dementia results when blood vessel damage deprives the brain of oxygen. Brain cells die as a result, and mental function suffers. Some studies link high cholesterol levels to an increased risk of cognitive impairment. More research is needed to sort this out, but even now, investigations of HDL (good) cholesterol and mental function have consistently reported that high HDL levels appear to help preserve mental function in older people. |
The Connection Between Alzheimer’s Disease and Cholesterol is Complex
Scientists have learned that much of the damage of Alzheimer’s comes from deposits of a sticky protein, called beta-amyloid, in vital areas of the brain. In some studies, high cholesterol levels appear to accelerate the formation of beta-amyloid plaques. People with the genetic trait that increases the level of a particular cholesterol transport protein have a greatly increased risk of late-onset Alzheimer’s.
Can Statins Reduce the Risk of Alzheimer’s disease?
In the most recent studies, people who took statins did not appear to be at lower risk for the disease. Additional research is under way. For now, it’s too early for firm conclusions about the relationships among cholesterol, cognitive function, and statin therapy.
The Alzheimer Disease—Bios Life Connection
To date, no clinical studies have been conducted on Bios Life and the prevention of cholesterol buildup that could lead to dementia. However, past clinical results prove just how effective Bios Life is in improving overall cholesterol levels.
Bios Life has proven to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol by an astounding 31 percent. Some test participants reported decreases more than 52 percent! Overall reductions averaged more than 20 percent.
What’s equally amazing is that the average increase of HDL (good) cholesterol was 29 percent, with some achieving increases of up to 85 percent! Overall increases for HDL levels were 25 percent. Keep in mind that statin drugs have little or no effect on good cholesterol.
What’s more, if you’re already treating your cholesterol levels with prescription statins, Bios Life will help you reduce your LDL cholesterol even further. |

Cholesterol in the Brain and Body
|
|
|
In addition to improving LDL and HDL levels, Bios Life lowers triglycerides—the form in which most fat exists in food as well as in your body and blood. Bios Life has also proven to stabilize blood sugar levels. No other supplement is more comprehensive for treating your entire lipid profile than Bios Life.

This Month’s Featured Product—
Coenzyme Q10 Helps Bios Life Combat Heart Disease
Unicity’s CoQ10 multi-tasks to improve your health including nourishing your heart muscle tissue. |
What do congestive heart failure, gum disease and obesity have in common? Very often, it’s a deficiency of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).
A lack of CoQ10 has also been implicated in arrhythmias, strokes, hypertension, heart attacks, atherosclerosis, muscular dystrophy and many of these diseases can be prevented and treated successfully with CoQ10.
Since its discovery and isolation 40 years ago hundreds of clinical research studies have been done on CoQ10 and it is now abundantly clear that this nutrient
is absolutely vital to health.
Coenzyme Q10 has received particular attention in the prevention and treatment of various forms of cardiovascular disease. It is highly effective in preventing the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) that leads to atherosclerosis.
Several studies have shown that patients with congestive heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases have significantly lower levels of CoQ10 in their heart tissue than do healthy people and supplementation with as little as 100 mg/day has been shown to markedly improve their condition. CoQ10 is now approved in Japan for the treatment of congestive heart failure.
Coenzyme Q10 is a great boost to heart health, but it has many other beneficial effects. Strenuous physical exercise reduces blood levels of CoQ10 and supplementation with CoQ10 has been found to improve athletic performance.
Many overweight people have very low levels of CoQ10 and supplementation may enable them to lose weight due to the effect of CoQ10 in speeding up the metabolism of fats.
CoQ10 has been used with success in combating periodontal diseases, especially gingivitis (gum disease). Tissue affected by gingivitis is deficient in CoQ10 and experiments have shown that supplementation with CoQ10 can decrease inflammation.
Taking CoQ10 everyday will help ensure your body maintains healthy levels of this vital nutrient for a long and healthy life!

Converting Customers to Franchise Owners
(Chapter 7 of the Bios Life Franchise Manual)
Ronnie Weston is the owner of Lifequest Enterprises, a sales and marketing firm based in Palm Harbor, Florida. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 1977 and a Juris Doctor from Hofstra University in 1980. She practiced securities law for eight years in New York and Florida, specializing in health care finance. She is now an entrepreneur and trainer, with over seventeen years experience in running her own business and providing consulting services to others. |
|
Ronnie’s association with Unicity for the last fourteen years has been an extremely rewarding one. She has built an enormously successful franchise on a part time basis. Her success has given her the time freedom to serve on the Boards of several charitable organizations, thereby making a difference in today’s world. Ronnie’s goal is simple: to teach audiences about the power of leverage and its relationship to achieving personal and professional success.
Ronnie’s true passion revolves around spending time with her family—her husband Evan, her two sons, Chad and Jake, three bonus children, and three grand children. She loves to cook and entertain and is currently writing a cookbook about the connection between food and family.
