When you scan the horizon of your health, what do you see? Don't forget
to pay attention to one of your most essential senses--your eye-sight.
Several natural nutrients are known to help strengthen and maintain the
eyes, and VISUtein provides these nutrients to you in a comprehensive
combination of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and phytonutrients. Vitamin
A supports night vision, beta carotene fights against free radical damage,
lutein protects eye lenses against photo- oxidation from sunlight, zinc
supplements one of the most abundant trace elements in the eye, and a
standardized bilberry extract recognized for its role in enhancing vision
in the dark. VISUtein® also contains N-acetyl cysteine, which is a building
block for one of the most important antioxidants in the body.*
What it will do for you:
Every year literally millions of people around the world find themselves
fighting for their sight, a sense that many of us take for granted until
we confront the real possibility of losing it.
Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world and the number-one
cause of vision impairment in the United States. Closer to home, age-related
macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in western countries.
Almost as debilitating is glaucoma, the "silent thief of sight."
Approximately three million Americans alone fall victim to this condition,
which can cause blindness if not treated in its early stages.
In addition to these tragic eye problems, every single one of us combat
daily challenges to enjoying healthy eyesight. Whether it's ultraviolet
light in the atmosphere, eyestrain from staring at a computer all day,
or simply pollution or air particles, potential dangers surround us, threatening
what we often take for granted.
Unicity's VISUtein contains a comprehensive combination of vitamins, minerals,
herbs, and phytonutrients that create an approach to wellness, providing

Research Brief
The light-gathering portion of the eye is the retina, a thin sheet of
neural tissue located on the back of the eye. Light enters the eye through
the cornea and is focused by the lens onto the retina. Nerve cells within
the retina convert the light to nerve impulses, which are carried to the
brain via the optic nerve. The central part of the retina, the macula
lutea, is the area of most acute vision because of the high density of
nerve cells in this region. Accordingly, there is a well-developed circulatory
pattern that provides nutrients to the retina.
The macula has been shown to contain high levels of various carotenoid
pigments. Two of these in particular, lutein and zeaxanthin, are preferentially
deposited in the macula as well as the lens. These carotenoids have antioxidant
properties, and it is hypothesized that these molecules, as well as a
variety of antioxidant molecules, help to protect the macula and lens
against free radical damage from the ultraviolet radiation in light.*
